An Australian was in France for the fourth of July… kind of sounds like the beginning of a bad joke, but that was mine and a bunch of other cast members reality yesterday afternoon.

Even the sky was celebrating America’s birthday.

There’s a cutesy lake nearby that a bunch of people went to after work to hang out and celebrate America’s Independence Day. Of the 50 or so of us there, perhaps 5 were American, but nevertheless, people from all over the world, got together last night and it was one of those.. ‘ah, how good is life’ afternoons.

In 2015, i had the amazing opportunity of working at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida for 12 months and fell in love with the country and it’s traditions. My favourite holiday without a doubt is Christmas but a very close second and third are Thanksgiving and Halloween, neither of which are Australian traditions. I had the pleasure of spending the last two Thanksgivings in America with my Disney framily (friendsXfamily) and i absolutely adore it. I love the turkey and the stuffing, i love that people are reminded of all there blessings and that today, Thanksgiving is a day to tell you’re framily just how much you love and appreciate them.. as if that’s not the coolest/cutest idea ever.

Thanksgiving 2016.

Now don’t get me wrong, i love being Australian and all of the insane and laidback slang and traditions that come with it (“have an avo in the arvo… ” perhaps the most Australian sentence ever to be said). But Australia is kind of backwards… we celebrate Easter in Autumn and Halloween in Spring… WHUT? I love the orange leaves and the snuggly weather, i love carving pumpkins and all things pumpkin flavoured. Living in the United States for the entirety of fall and celebrating Halloween properly (again, it’s not celebrated in Aus…) redeemed all of my disappointing childhood trick or treating attempts.

Now living in Florida, i didn’t get my white Christmas, in fact it was basically an Australian Christmas so i’m really looking forward to the holidays here in Paris. I’m praying for snow so keep your fingers crossed for me.

I find something new to appreciate everyday and yesterday was certainly a big beautiful reminder of how amazing this whole opportunity is. I can’t begin to express my gratitude for all of the blessings currently filling my life; Paris, Disney, Framily (i’m really digging this word), Peanutbutter and Jelly sandwiches & 2€ rosé. La vie est belle.

A bientôt, avec amour ❤
